in 2011 i made a trip to Rome with my boyfriend. we were viewing this exhibition which had several stations across the sprawling ruins of ancient rome. after walking countless steps under the brutal sun, we were about to arrive at our last station when my boyfriend stopped and beckoned me to join him in admiring a grand old olive tree along our path. tired, hungry and thirsty, i snapped that i didn’t come all this way to Rome to admire some stupid lame old tree. i found out today that it was an olive tree, and this drawing is about that incident.
